Does the idea of a crippledJesus limit God’s power?
We believe that God is all-powerful. No question asked. But somehow God chose to limit his power in order to work through us. We really believe that John 20:21 is true and that the same way God has sent Jesus into the world Jesus is now sending us into the world. The church is now representing Christ in this world.
Is the empty cross not an even more powerful symbol representing the resurrection of Christ?
Historically the Catholic Church focused on the cross with the body of Jesus hanging on it representing Jesus dying for the sins of the world. Evangelicals took Jesus of the cross wanting to emphasize the resurrection of Christ (however, often they forgot this crucial point in their Gospel representation…).
To be honest, even though we come more from an evangelical background, we don’t understand this division. If we want to emphasize the resurrection of Jesus we should use the empty tomb as a symbol and not an empty cross. Jesus was taken of the cross when he was still dead. The empty cross, as a symbol, does not say anything about Jesus being resurrected.
Does God really need us to do his will in the world?
Somehow God chose to need us; otherwise the metaphor from the Apostle Paul of the church being the body of Christ in this world would be meaningless. Throughout the history of salvation God chose to save humanity through humanity. God is still asking the same question: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for me?” (Isaiah 6:8).
